What’s the deal with the new Add-On?

soSIMPLE Calendar is now available as an Add-On for FileMaker 19 and above. In addition to the features of our Server-Powered version, the Add-On works in WebDirect natively, as well as with Claris Cloud and Linux servers. See more information here.

The rest of this FAQ is for the Server-Powered version.

What are the system requirements for soSIMPLE Calendar Server-Powered?

  • FileMaker Server 12 or above
  • FileMaker Pro 12 or above
  • Calendars work in:
    • FileMaker Pro 12+
    • FileMaker Go 12+
    • All recent versions of IE, Chrome, Explorer or Safari
    • All recent mobile browsers

What are the two FileMaker Pro files you provide?

  • soSIMPLE Calendar file is our starter solution that can be used as is, or as a starting point for developing your own solution.
  • soSIMPLE Calendar Settings is the backend configuration software for all your server-powered calendars.

Do you need both files?

If you’re using soSIMPLE Calendar file as your calendar, or as a starter solution, you need both of these files on the same server, or in the same folder.

Regardless, you always need to have the soSIMPLE Calendar Settings included in your solution, whether it’s Standalone or Server-Powered.

If you already have a FileMaker solution that you use for your company, we recommend our famous 5-minute integration instead of starting with our starter file. This makes the calendar seamlessly and cleanly embedded in your solution with no extra moving parts. This method does not require the soSIMPLE Calendar file – all the events are stored within your own file.

Do you provide a demo or trial version?

Yes.

You can try soSIMPLE Calendar live without even downloading anything. Just go to our “Try It Now” page. You can try Server-Powered calendars right from our web site, or open our hosted solution in FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Go.

Or, to try it on your own server, download soSIMPLE Calendar from the “Try it Now” page. This is the full product with no expiration, time limits, or other limitations. The only difference is that all calendars have a watermark that shows the product is yet to be registered, and the “soSIMPLE Calendar” file is in Data Entry mode only. When you decide to purchase, you just register the software, and continue using it. You will be provided with the developer account for the soSIMPLE Calendar file.

Do I need a plug-in to use your calendar?

No..

However, soSIMPLE provides you an optimized version of MBS Plugin, which is optional, and helpful in a couple of scenarios:

  • MBS Plugin is used  within soSIMPLE Calendar Settings for copying your custom scripts and layout objects to the clipboard.
  • MBS Plugin can also be used on Server-Powered FileMaker Pro-based calendars (created with both “Server Powered” and “Client-Side Script” selected). Using this plugin enables you to update a single event on the calendar without having to refresh the entire calendar. The plug-in is optional for this use and not required in FileMaker 19 and above.
  • The calendars are completely functional and interactive without the plugins.
  • No plugins are used for browser-based calendars – those typically deployed on the web or for FileMaker WebDirect.

Another note about the plugin: since we can optionally install this plugin at startup, Client Side solutions should call the startup script in soSIMPLE Calendar Settings. Our sample script does this for you.

Is soSIMPLE Calendar a fully-functioning solution?

Yes!

Beginning with version 3, soSIMPLE Calendar file is now a fully functional calendar that can be used as it is or expanded upon.

My demo is locked – do you provide the password after I purchase the product?

We provide the developer password to the file soSIMPLE Calendar file. This file is completely editable and configurable once you purchase any version of soSIMPLE Calendar.

However, the soSIMPLE Calendar Settings file is a settings tool. It is carefully designed to setup and deploy calendars. Your end-users never have to see this file. You do not receive the developer password to this file. We do provide functions for you to change the configuration password to soSIMPLE Calendar Settings, and to have FileMaker Server hide the file in the “Open Remote” window. (see Settings window)

Do you do custom development

Absolutely.

We built soSIMPLE Calendar to empower you with the tools to build sophisticated calendars without the need to know PHP, JavaScript, CSS, or any other web technologies. We did our best to include all the features that we think you’d need in a calendar, based the ones that we’ve built for our clients. If you need something special that we didn’t include, we’d be happy to provide custom development in FileMaker Pro, or in the soSIMPLE backend. Please contact us.
